ANGLICAN SYNOD.

THE REY. A. R. PITCHETT. [Per Press Association.} WELLING I ON, Feb. 13.

The Rev A. R. Pitchett writes to the Times, giving the substance of what he intended to say in the Synod on Thursday, when silenced by the ruling of the President. It is as follows:—" Since our coming to Wellington, something had occurred which to us Dunedin representatives seemed damaging to the reputation of one of our number, and consequently injurious to his standing and influence in the Synod. In these circumstances we felt it due to our colleague, who is a clergyman, to say that, iu his own diocese, his reputation was unchallenged, and, we believe, unchallengeable. As Chairman of the Board of Nominators, I was acquainted with all the circumstances of this clergyman’s appointment to an important parish in tha city of Dunedin, and knew that he came to ua with a good record. After a residence in our diocese of only a few months he was chosen, in a contested election, one of the clerical representatives to the General Synod. He was held in high esteem by hie colleagues, clerical and lay, and we believed him entitled to the respect and confidence of of the Synod.” Mr Fitchett then goes on to say : “ I had no intention of criticis : ng tha ‘something’ that had occurred, neither the matter nor the manner of it. The President’s on this head were groundless. I felt it my duty to attempt, at all hazards, to say something for a brother representative in undeserved trouble, who could hardly speak for himself ; and the object of my intervention, I venture to think, has been secured. As I am leaving for the south on Saturday, and shall not have an opportunity of appearing in the Synod again, I avail myself for this statement of the publicity of your columns.”
