AUCKLAND, Feb. 12. At a meeting of members and intending members of the New Zealand Rifle Association relative to the Association meeting, it was stated that civilians have already entered, and that there will probably be thirty Volunteers from Auckland. Tonight the Auckland Naval Artillery decided to send Lieutenants Smith and Little to represent the Company, and a third man if one qualified. It is intended to form a branch of the St John Ambulance Association. Lord Onslow has consented to preside at a public meeting in regard to the matter. Mr Shera, has received a telegram from the Premier, stating that the Cabinet will consider the question of the Stratford route road in a few days. INVERCARGILL, Feb. 12. The Southland County Council has reappointed Mr Howarth as Engineer. He left the service for a more remunerative position, which he immediately resigned. The Council had invited applications for the position, but rejected them and gave the post to Mr Howarth, who was not a candidate. The weather is warm and muggy, with a low barometer. The Dome bridge has been repaired, and the Dunedin express was only ten minutes late to-day.
