ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES .

[Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, Feb. 10. The rumoured drowning of Thomas Spurges in the Ekefcahuna district is confirmed, the body being, found this morning. NELSON, Feb. 11. An inquest was held this afternoon at Wakefield, touching the death of Mr Samuel Clayden, a member of the Education Board. He was crossing a small creek near his house by means of a plank, when apparently he became giddy and fell into the water. He struggled to the bank, but died there. The cause of death was heart disease, and a verdict was returned accordingly. Dr Tweed, of Ashburton, and his groom met with an accident when driving a buggy and pair down the Rangitata incline on Wednesday night, through one of the horses kicking. Dr Tweed had one of his riba broken, and was badly shaken. The groom was also badly shaken, and it is feared that the horses will have to be destroyed.
