THE WAR POSSIBILITIES. [Special to Pbebs Association.] [Eeceived Deo. 22, at 10.10 a.m.J WASHINGTON, Dec. 21. In the event o£ a war breaking out with Chili, the United States Government will purchase the steamers Zealandia, Australia, Mariposa and Alameda, to act as tenders to the warships defending the coast, and to assist in the transport of troops. The Secretary of State has assured General Monte, President of Chili, that he is confident an amicable settlement of the difficulty will be made after a complete enquiry into the disturbance. The Tribune confirms the statement that the United States Navy is preparing for war.
