YESTERDAY'S MARKET. Every department o£ the market was well stocked, and the attendance was larger than usual on the occasion of the supply o£ Christmas meat, the sale being the only one for ten days. Store Sheep. —About 2000 were yarded, the bulk of which were cross-bred ewes, some with lambs, and a number of young sorts mixed, besides a few w duo ewes and lambs. A heavy line of good two-tooths realised 11s 4d; ewes and lambs sold at from 5s Id to 7s (all counted), and some forward-conditioned dry ewes realised 7s. A couple of lines of cross-bred hoggets realised 9s 6d and 10a 6d respectively. Messrs Todhdntbb and Jennings sold for Mr M. Ryan, 88 merino ewes at 2s 2d; for a client, 85 four-tooth cross-bred ewes at 10s 2d, S 3 merino ewes at Is 8d ; for Mr C. Lewis, 63 cross-bred ewes and lambs at 14s ; for clients, two-tooth eroes-breds at 8a 7d, 800 cross-bred hoggets at 9a 6d, 150 merino wethers at 6s 9d, 70 cross-bred ewes at 5s 9d. Messrs H. Matson and Co. (associated with the National M. and A. Company of N.Z., Limited) sold cross-bred ewes at 9a 9d. and a line of 500 cross-bred hoggets at 10a 6d. Fat Lambs.— -About 700 were yarded, some of which were of very prime quality, and brought up to 12s Bd, while the bulk of the entry brought from 8s to 10a 6d. Messrs H. Messrs Miles and Co. sold for Mr T. Needham, fat lambs at 10s; for Mr T. Kneeshaw, lambs at 9s 6d. The New Zealand Loan and Meecantile Agency Company, Limited, sold 16 at 10s 4d, 16 at 10s lOd, and sundry lots at 9s 3d to 10s sd. Fat Sheep. —A very heavy entry comprised all classes, from the extra heavy cross-bred wethers from Mr Max Friedlander’s Lyndhurst estate, which realised 20a to 23s 6d, and were sold in trios for Christmas display purposes, to the second-rate and half-fat merino wethers, for which there was little or no demand. Best cross-bred wetheis and maiden ewes sold at from 12s to 13s 6d, and lines of second-rate cross-breds and ewea brought from 5s 9d to 10s Bd. There were comparatively few merinos, but of theae some were very prime ones from Mr A. M. Clark's Eiverslea estate, and a small line of Mr Friedlander's brou<rhfc l-l-i 6d and 14s lOd respectively. in marketable order, at ils 4d. Messrs Pyne and Co. got 15s to 15a 6d for soma of Mr A. M. Clark’s very prime cross-bred wethers, sheep that would have commanded at least I7s less than a month ago. Mr Tabart sold a draft of Mr John Griggte cross-bred ewes,'in fine ; order, which only, brought from lie fid’to. 12s lid. Fat Cattle,—3oo head made too heavy an entry for the demand, which was fairly good for nice, handy-sized heifers, bat very weak in the case of big steers, of whioa there were too many by half. A consignment of 70 head of very fair bullocks fron); the Hawera district, which looked none toefresh after their journey, were sold at! unsatisfactory prices to the shipper, which would leave no margin for profit, at £Blo* to £6 15s, the prices secured for them. A few locally-bred animals brought above' this figure, and some nice heifers sold from £6 5s to £l, being much in request. Cows and second • rat* heifers and steers were dull of sal*. Messrs H. A few nice dairy oowa wer* offered, hut only a small proportion changed owners. Messrs H. Matson and Go. (associated with the National M. and . A. Company of N.Z., Limited), sold for various clients, 16 yearlings at 28s, 4 steer* at £3, heifers at 27s 6d to £8,9 two-year-old steers at £2 3s, 11 heifers at- £2 7s, and a number of odd lots of dry oows at from 16s to £2 lls; also, dairy cows and springers at £2 15a to £4 17s fid. Pigs.— Only fifty pigs were yarded, of which the greater number consisted of porkers. Messrs H. Matson and Co* (associated with the National M. and A.
