Messrs H. Matson and Co. (associated with the National M. and A. Company of N.Z., Limited) report for the week ending Sept. 7, IS9l;—Wheat The market remains firm, and buyers have exhibited a desire to operate, but there is very little offering. Quotations now stand at 4s 3d for Hunter’s, 4s 4d for Pearl, and 4s 5d to 4s 6d for Tuscan. Chick wheat is also firming, in sympathy with milling. Broken 3a 3d to 3a 6d, whole 3a 9d. Oats —Prime sorts are firmer all round, but ordinary feed do not command an advance, although wo fancy they will maintain present prices. Milling Is 9d to Is lOd, feed la 7d to la BJd, Dana la 9d. Barley is moving into the hands of maltsters, but without any improvement in values, viz., 2s 4d to 2s 9d. Feed is wanted at about 2s. Potatoes—The market still remains in an unsatisfactory state. Sales have taken place at 10s to loa per ton at country stations. The Sydney market which has advanced to 50s will, we fear, give way again on arrival of the various vessels now on their way. Grass seeds have had a dull sale for this time of the year, owing, no doubt, to the extremely dry weather that has prevailed, but the welcome rain that foil on Friday, should induce increased sowing. Machine-dressed ryegrass 5s to 5a Gd, undressed 4s to 4s Gd. Cocksfoot, prime 5d to sld, dark and not dressed 4}d to 4|d. Beans, 2s lOd to 3s. Peas, Blues 2s 9d to 3s, feed 2a 6d. Dairy Produce—Hams and bacon 4£-d to 5-J-d; cheese 4d to 4Jd; butter, keg 9d to lOd. Quotations arc f.0.b., sacks extra. Auction Sale.—Saturday’s sale was well represented by both town and country buyers, and the following prices were realised ex store;— Wheat.—Only two lines of broken wheat were offered, which met with good competition, and sold at 3s sd. Grass seeds were in stronger request:, and a quantity of rou"h seed sold at 2d to 3d for cocksfoot and° 1b to 3s 6d for ryegrass. Beans.—A small parcel brought 2s lOd. Peas.—A small parcel brought 3s. Oats and Barley. —None sold.
