ROAD BOARDS.
COURTENAY. A meeting of this Board was held on Tuesday, August' 31. All the inembers wer.e present.—Letters were read :—From Mr W. H. Beere and others, asking for a level crossing oyer; the, south railway line • between Burnham and Norwood. The Clerk was directed to reply that application hale been made to the Railway Department for the crossing.—Prom Mr S. L, Fletcher, in regard to impounding stray stock from river-beds, and roads adjoining the Waireka estate. The Clerk was instructed to apply to the Commissioner of Crown Lands for authority to empower the Board’s ranger to impound stock from the riverbeds in the district.—Prom the Chairman of the West Melton School Committee, drawing attention to the state of the footpaths ac West Melton. Tne Surveyor was authorised to make certain improvements. —From Mr M. Egan, applying for an open crossing for water-race water across Egan’s road. This was granted on certain conditions.—Prom Mr j. Eudd, applying for open crossings across Bridge road and the Greendale and Selwyn Valley road. The Board decided to grant the former application, but recommended the applicant to ascertain if he could get the water from the south branch of the race, so as to avoid breaking the surface of the latter road.— It was resolved to obtain a further supply of poisoned wheat.—The Clerk was instructed to advertise for. tenders for different works j and other business having been transacted the meeting terminated. ASHLEY. The ordinary meeting of the Ashley Eoad Board was held on Thursday, August 6; all the members, were present.—The Surveyor reported that, with a very few exceptions; the ratepayers were complying with the Board’s notices to clear the gorse off roads adjoining their sections. He was directed to continue serving notices whenever the work of clearing was neglected. —Mr Barwell’s application to be allowed to carry his wire fence across the river Makirikiri, near Denton’s, was granted conditionally.—Tenders were ordered for improving Mr Whatman’s cutting and the Hill road, Ashley ; for work required on the road across Birch Hill FI at promised at a former meeting; for ploughing and harrowing quartet of road at Tracey’s, Fahey’s, O’Halloran’s and north bank of Makirikiri, between Waller’s and the footbridge. which the Board has already cleared. A farther . sum of £lO was granted for the destruction of small birds. —Leave was given to Mr Fraser to remove stuff from quarter of road near bis section. Accounts amounting to £73 17s Id were passed for payment.
