MINING NEWS.

[from ouk own cobbkspondent.] REEF TON, August Id. The following is the Stock Exchange report The weekly amalgam returns to hand to-day from the United Alpine, Big River, Fiery Cross, Cumberland, Progress, No. 2 Keep-it-Dark aud Globe batteries amount to IfiOOoz, which is, indeed, a very fair record. The Progress ia not yet running full time, and the Globa tonnage is less than usual, on account of a temporary interruption. At the United Alpine full time may bo expected from this out. During next week crushing at the Golden Lead will be resumed, and there is every prospect of all parts of the field being represented in the battery returns fer some time ahead. The share market has bad no very marked alteration for the week, and although a few lines show an advance business has been limited, and dealers must bo keen to get parcels to operate on. Big Rivers are stationary at former rates, and have had few transactions, while the same may bo said for Cumberlands. Exchanges have been neglected, and show tho effect of the prevailing dulness with a lot of other lines, in regard to which no new developments have taken place Fiery Cross shares show a rise, andhave had pretty fair inquiry end business. Golden Leads are offering at a reduction oa last week’s figure, and Homeward Bounds have improved, and have sold to 5s 9d. Happy Valleys found buyers up to sd, and Hercules are wanted at 2s. Keop-it-Darks sold up to 16a and buyers are unsupphed. Lord Edwards show no alteration. Merngiga are easier, while No. 2 Keep-it-Darks moved up to sales at’6s, being an advance on former rates. This is a consistent little stock, and investors are beginning to notice it. Buyers of Pandoras offer low prices, and Bussells have hesn looked for from outside. The stone in the latter has proved payable; it opens up well and the property has a future. Triumphs have buyers at low prices, and United Alpines show on advance and a much batter feeling. _ Another body of stone has been struck in the mine, which throughout shows years of work on the main lode already proved. Shares sold up to 18s fid to-day, and doubtless the excellently firm tendency will be sustained and lead to steady business. A number of other lines remain as before, without any change to note. Regarding the proposed new Mining Bill, it is satisfactory to know that there is a fair likelihood of the measure being put back, so as to allow of time for a thoroughly representative conference by which its inequalities and unworkable parts .could be better explained, and the requirements and necessities of the different mining centres properly dealt with. Any measure calculated to hamper mining seriously affects the Inangahua district, which has but the one industry to support, a large population. Midday prices Big River 18a 9d to 19s 3d, Blue Sky 3d to fid, Cumberland lls to lls fid. Exchange Is 9d to 2s, Fiery Cross to 5s 7d, Golden Lead 2s lid to,3s 2d. Homeward Bound 5s 7d to 5s 9d, Happy Valley 3d to sd, Hercules 2s to 2a 3d, Low Level 4d to fid, Keep-it-Dark 15s lOd to 16s fid. Lord Edward 3s fid to 33 9d, Meirijigs, 9d to Is, No. 2 Keep-it-Dark 5s lid to fis 3d, Pandora 4d to fid, Bussell la to Is 2d, Triumph 3d to £d. United Alpine 18a 3d to ISj 9d, Wealth 3s to 3s fid.
