BANGIORA BOROUGH COUNCIL

The fortnightly meeting of the Council • was held on Friday; present—The Mayor, and Councillors Sansom, Cone, Manning, Stevens, Ivory and Jennings. Apology was made for the absence of Councillors Keir and Wright. ■ CORRESPONDENCE. The Assistant Engineer of Railway* wrote to the effect that he could not recommend a gate being placed at the end of Blackett street east, next the Railway station. Notification was received from the Property Tax Department of a voucher having been passed for the payment of <827 10s, being balance of subsidy. PETITION. A petition bearing fifty-eight signatures was presented, asking the Council to take steps to prevent fish hawkers from taking: up a stand with their carts for business purposes in the streets on market days. The Mayor, Councillors Manning, Cone and Jennings were appointed a Committee to make inquiries and to ascertain, the Council’s powers in connection, with the matter. . > ’ THE ARTESIAN .WEIiL. ’ The Mayor mentioned that the, contractor for sinking the six-inch well, pipe intended to commence operations shortly. The dogs registered being , much below the usual number, it was agreed to again send round the Ranger, and empower him to collect the registration fees. • Several minor matters received attention and the meeting closed.
