AUCKLAND LIBERAL. ASSOCIATION.
[Pbb Peess Association.] AUCKLAND, August 18. At a meeting of citizens under the auspices of the Auckland Liberal Association, Anti-Poverty Society, Trades and Labour Council and Knights of Labour, Mr J. A. Tole presiding, the following resolutions were carried : Pirsb, The meeting expresses its confidence in the present Government, and particularly strong approval of its taxation proposals, in so far as they embody taxation of land values exclusive of improvements, and the ultimate abolition of the Property tax in any form. With regard to perpetual leasehold the meeting considers that no right of purchase of the fee simple should be allowed in the tenure. Second, That the true interest of capital is protected and safeguarded by equitable law regarding labour, and the proposed legislation of the present Government ia founded on a just conception of the respective rights and duties of capital and labour. Third, the meeting expresses its thanks to Sir G. Grey and the Liberal members for their consistent support of the Ministry in the carrying out of the principle of equal justice for all the inhabitants of Nei* Zealand. An independent motion by Councillor Crowther, condemning the proposed increase in the honorarium, and the payment of liabilities at Bellamy’s was put. The voting was recorded as equal, but the Chairman declared the motion lost.
