J Rouen,. France. - The Union Steamship Company’s ' iteamer Wairarapa arrived from Melbourne, vii southern ports, yesterday at Baju. She left Melbourne at 12.15 p.m. on August 6, cleared Port Phillip Heads at 3 p.m., had Wilson’s Promontory abeam at 11.45 p.m., and reached the Bluff at 3 p.m. on August 10. She sailed again at 4 p.m., and after calling at Dunedin arrived as above. Moderate winds and fine weather were experienced throughout the passage. Mr 0. W. Turner has chartered the eteamer Fiado to replace the Industry in the trade between this Colony and Sydney, as the Industry’s charter ia now up. The Fiado ie now at Timarn, and will arrive here either to-day or to-morrow to load produce. She is a vessel of 640 tons net and 985 tons gross register, and was built in Sunderland in 1878 by A. Thompson, jun., being owned by W. H. Smith and Sons. She is commanded by Captain Carnie, who is well known at Lyttelton: Yesterday afternoon was a close holiday at Port, and the place was deserted by all bat those whose work at the shipping kept (hem in attendance.

Dunedin, August 18, The Union Steamship Company has received advice that the s.s. Boldana left Calcutta on. August 7 for Dunedin direct, with a full cargo of Indian produce. She ie expected here on Sept. 9. Inveecaegill, August 13. The s.s. Industry, which left the Bluff for Sydney at 4.30 p.m. on Wednesday, put back at ten o’clock to-night, leaky. The captain gives no information, but it is known that the vessel touched the bottom when leaving port. She was then in charge of Captain Marchall, who has an exemption from pilotage. The vessel is now alongside the wharf. Bluff, August 13. Arrived—Barque West York, Captain Davia, from Wellington, after a rough passage. Sailed Ovalau, steamer. Captain Cameron, for Sydney. SAN FRANCISCO MAIL. Auckland, August 13. The Monowai, Captain Carey, arrived from San Francisco this evening, with the pan Francisco mail. She left San Francisco on July 24, at 5 p.m., one day late; reached Honolulu oh July 31, at 6 a.m., and sailed at 5 p.m. The weather was fine, and the voyage was made in the fast time of 19 days shr 41min; steaming time, 18 days I7hr 30min; average daily run, 319£ knots; average, 13 } knots per hour.
