TPek Press Association.] AUCKLAND PACING CLUB. AUCKLAND, August 3. At the annual meeting o£ the Auckland Pacing Club to-day, the Chairman, Mr L. D. Nathan, referred to the satisfactory results of the year. Ha congratulated the Club on the increase of membership, the receipts being £IOO more than last year’s. Although £365 more was given in prize money there was aa actual money gain on the year of £575. The Chairman also made reference to the proposed totalisator tax, and said that the 2£ per cent proposed was too large. If a small percentage was taken from the totalisator’s gains it should at least bo given back in the shape of 50 per cent Government subscriptions to Queen’s Plates to bo run at metropolitan centres. These Queen’s Plates should bo for the support of horse-breeding—-that is, breeding for stamina and endurance as well as Leaking at the immense India-for remounts, it would be policy on the part of Government to encourage the breeding of strong cavalry and artillery horses. He stated that £7O leas was owing this year on account of members’ subscriptions. Mr E. W. Alison proposed—“ That in the opinion of this meeting it is desirable that at conferences having for their object the consideration of matters pertaining to racing, suburban and clubs shall be entitled to he represented by at least one delegate from each provincial district.” The mover thought that with thirty country clubs in the provincial district of Auckland, they should bo represented and have a voice in making the rules which they were forced to race under. The speaker expressed the opinion that metropolitan clubs were harsh and arbitrary in their treatment toward suburban and country clubs. The motion was rejected. WELLINGTON, August 3. The balance-sheet of the United Hunt Club shows a credit of £306, of which amount £291 was derived from the recent Steeplechase Meeting held by the Clubs. ASHBURTON TROTTING CLUB.
