LYTTELTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The usual fortnightly meeting of the Council was held on Monday night; pre-sent—-The Mayor and CouncillorsAUwright, M'Lellan, Thompson, Cook, Webb, Brice, Hiidyard and Laurensen. correspondence. Correspondence was read;— From the Auditor-General’s office, stating that frauds had taken place in connection with local; bodies by the collector, or accountant, showing certain items.forrates and rents outstanding, whereas in some cases these items had been collected; and the blame fell on the Audit Office. The only way a stop could be put to this sort of thing was for the members of the bodies interested to see themselves that such did not occur. The letter was received and referred to tho Finance Committee. From the Christchurch Hospital Board, stating that the sum allocated as Lyttelton’s portion of the Hospital maintenance was £7B Bs. Councillor Allwright moved, and Councillor M'Lellan seconded, that the amount should be passed for payment. A complaint was received from Mr Hatton, Dampier’s Bay. Referred to the Works Committee to act at once. FINANCE. : Accounts amounting to £384 7a 9d were passed for payment. Receipts amounting to £283 5s 2d since the last meeting were reported. , REPORTS. The Foreman of Works’ report was read. It was decided that Councillors Webb and Allwright, with the Foreman of Works, should inspect and report upon the fencing and planting at the. Ashburton Reserve. The Works Committee recommended that the footpath from the Rev E. E. Chambers’ to Mr M. Miller’s house, in Dampier’a Bay, should be kerbsd. The Sanitary Committee could not see its way clear to recommend any reduction in the charge for the removal of night soil from the railway premises in Lyttelton. ' THE WELLINGTON CONFERENCE. The Mayor said that nothing of any very great importance had been transacted, as far as Lyttelton was concerned, at the Wellington Conference of Local Bodies, but he hoped the Council would continue to grant the small amount necessary to send a delegate each year, for the Conference was a moat necessary innovation. The Government had promised to forward a printed copy of the minutes of the Conference to each local body. Councillor M'Lellan moved, and Councillor Cook seconded—" That the Mayor be accorded a vote of thanks for attending the Conference.” Carried. TENDERS. The tender of W. Eadcliffe for painting the building known as Harris’ boardinghouse, for. the sum of £3 Jus, being the lowest, was,accepted. After disposing of other matters, the meeting terminated.
