THE HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,— The Government of this country must ere long appoint a Commission to inquire and report upon the general management oi! outdoor relief under the Bosrd 5 s supervision; also to revise and amend the Bill relating to these matters, with the object or directing and defining more particularly the powers of the Board. At present their power is absolute and unrestrained by any superior Commission. The charges of in competency to deal with poverty and distress successfully are everywhere expressed,, and it is impossible for matters to remain lobg in this abnormal state. What can. be , more, unseemly than the small “ squacterogly 55 . or. colonial aristocracy trying to display their lofty airs over their supposed plebeian colleagues, and to arrogate to themselves the entire direction of these public institutions F The Mayor has displayed considerable courage, tact and ability in bringing a prominent member of the Board to task and “flooring 55 him so completely. It will give the dominant party time and reason for reflection before again presuming to take upon themselves such lofty airs and peculiar flights of fancy.—l am, &0., FELIX ARM AND.
