BANGIORA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

A meeting of the Eangiora Borough Council was held on Friday; present— The Mayor and Councillors Sansora, Cone, Stevens, Manning, Ivory, Wright and Jennings. Apology was made for the absence of Councillors Blackett and Keir. COUEKSPONDBNCE, The following was read:— From Mr E. Moore, M.K.E., asking for an approximate estimate of the cost of raising the Post Office clock tower, to lay before the Postmaster - General. The Clerk stated that he had replied that the cost would be about .£SO. From the Secretary of the Charitable Aid Board, stating that the petition in Mrs M'Kay’s case had been considered, and that relief equal to I3a 4d per week would be granted. He said further that the relief previously allowed was 12s a week, not 8s as stated in the petition. From the Fire Brigade, stating that the fire-wells recently sunk in King and Albert streets did not give a flow of water sufficient to serve the steam engine. The matter was referred to the Fire Brigade Committee. Prom the same, inviting the Mayor, Councillors, and Town Clerk to a social gathering. LIGHTING. The Lighting Committee recommended that new lamps, should be procured and erected, one at the junction of Perceval and George streets, one at the junction of Victoria and Alfred streets, one in High street at the railway crossing, one in Edward street facing the railway station, one at the junction of East belt and Blackett street, and one on the East belt twenty chains south of High street. The Committee also recommended that Mr Miller's offer to light the lamps and provide glasses, at 3s 6d a lamp a month, be accepted. The clause referring to the new lamps was adopted. It was resolved to offer the lamplighter 3s a month for each lamp. A few minor matters having received attention the Council adjourned.
