RAILWAY LEAGUE.

The Secretary of the Railway League has , received the following letter from Dunedin:— “ I duly received your complimentary notice that a geucral meeting of. Committee would be held on Monday last, June 15. I was pleased to see that your last public meeting was bo thoroughly enthusiastic and that such good results eventuated. I also notice from yesterday’s telegrams. Press Association, that the receipts since reconstruction in December, 3885, to May lost had been X 367, and the expenditure X 366 ; that further subscriptions had been received since meeting amounting to X 66, subscriptions limited to one guinea each. A statement of this kind, * Limited to one guinea,’ is attractive. It calls forth such warm sympathy, and prevents one from becoming staggeringly generous. I enclose my cheque, Xl la value. Is being added for exchange. Wishing League all success.— Yours truly, Thomas W. Kemfthoene.” To this tho following reply was sent:— “ I thank you exceedingly for your most kind latter of June 17. with your cheery words of encouragement. For your graceful contribution to our funds we are very gratified and thankful, but this I must return you, for you have already given through your firm here, when I went round recently and canvassed the merchants for , subscriptions as ouv funds wore exhausted, having run down to XI Is 4d, which were nob much wherewith to continue tho battle. But all has gone so very well, we have had, the public with us absolutely. Prom door to door it was alone sympathy, goodwill and healthy encouragement. One felt quite proud to belong "to the League, Your help by telegram and otherwise was an immense advantage to us at a critical time; it added enthusiasm to the meeting, and was moat warmly appreciated. Thanking you very much for your good wishes, yours faithfully, " Wm. Forster, Secretary.”
