DOMAIN BOARD.

QUARTERLY MEETING. . The quarterly meeting of. the Christchurch Domain Board wasbr.Mln the City Council Chambers yesterday. Tba following members were present The Hon 0. <j, Bowen (in the chair), Bis John Hall, Messrs B, J. S. Harman and Murray. Aynsley, the Mayors of Sydenham and St Albans, and Colonel Lean (Secretary). The report of the Head Gardener stated that the Board's direction, to Inspect th > avenues and the other trees oontigaoa chiefly on the south side of the Ricoartoa road to suggest a basis of thinning, had been attended to, and a fall - report furnished to the EsecativeCommittee. The Executive seemed animated with one object, that of only sacrificing'soahof the trees that were injuring dr soon likely to injure by growth or overcrowding the trees of the avenue. The w«k of thinning is now being carried out. The Board's order, Affecting the naming of. the. New Zealand trees and shrubs, is now fairly in hand. Mr A. E. Cockayne, a gentlemen conversant with the New Zealand flora and an expert collector, has offered, at his own cost, to collect such plants as are desirable, should the Board be willing te accept them, and agree to defray the ooat of their carriage, which would bes very moderate outlay, probably . £S or In regard to the desire of the: Board, that some suitable planting should be carried out by the boundary fence on the garden side of the Museum, he would propose that a strong group of Abies Douglmi he established. as it would be a feature of superior effect and novelty. The report was approved. . ’ It was resolved to accept Mr’Cockayne's generous offer of a collection of plants, and that the thanks of the Board be 'tendered him’..

Mr Harman was elected a member of the Executive in the place of Mr Baker. The application of the Golf Club iojplaoe a building on North Fork to hold the Club's material was granted on the usual terms, 80s per annum. It was explained that the building would be on wheels, and would be removed at very short notice. Mr Harman drew attention to.the Ten large‘number of horsemen who each Saturday frequented the football- matches, thereby infringing the by-laws. It was resolved that the Banger . .be instructed to warn horsemen off and- to take other means to stop the practice.
