The Linda Weber, which has arrived from Baratonga, brings the following Island news:—
The warship Goldfinch was at Baratonga when the Linda Weber left, and after a cruise through the group with Mr Moss,: the British Resident at Baratonga, waste leave a few days later for New Hebrides.The ketch Awarua sailed on May 5 for Flint Island and Penrhyn Island. The Jessie Nicol and Toraa passed through the group, and Vanderbilt's schooner was in harbour. The Clansman arrived from Auckland off the island on the morning of May 7. A new schooner, built by Mr S. Host, was gaily decorated with bunting, ready for launching at high tide, but the attempt did not succeed, and was postponed till later on.
Mr Gardiner has charge of the bond, and is shipping master. Everything in Baratonga is in a flourishing state.
