The Board of Governors of the Auckland College and Grammar School has appointed Mr E. H. Robertson, M.A., of Melbourne University, to tee office of assistant master of the school, in place of tee late Mr J. P. Francis. GISBORNE, June 3.
Mr W. Jackson, representing a Canterbury syndicate, has obtained a lease for four years, at 2*d per acre, of 27,000 acres, being balance of the Tauwhareparae Harbour Board endowment. The block of land is considered good pastoral country. WELLINGTON, June 3.
During the year the Charitable Aid Board distributed 12,679 rations to poor and needy persons, at a coat of ,£142. Captain Moorhouse has resigned the command of the D Battery, it is believed, through the treatment received by the Battery at the hands of the Defence Department. OAMAEU, Juke 8.

DUNEDIN, June 3,
The Dunedin Presbytery to-day discussed the question of the circulation of obscene literature, aud decided to urge the Government to accede to the request of the New Zealand Medical Association to take the steps that may seem wisest to abate and suppress the evil in question. Oa Monday Mr Beatham begins the enquiry into Mr Macdonald’s allegations against the Official Assignee in reference to the administration of his estate.
