The French sailor Le Keban, who was injured by falling from the side of the warship Champlain to the floor of the Calliope Dock, died in the Hospital to-day. He belonged to the Champlain. WELLINGTON, June 2.
The hearing of the charge against Coleman Phillips, for dummyism, ia set down for Thursday. Counsel for the defence has served a notice upon the Crown Prosecutor that he intends to apply for a special jury, and the application will be heard to-morrow.
The tramway sheds were broken into this morning, and eight bags, in each of which it was usual to leave ten shillings’ worth of change ready for the conductors in the morning, were stolen. The hags were afterwards found near the Hospital.
The Governor has left for Pihiantea, near Featheraton, to enjoy a few days’ shooting.
BLENHEIM, June 2.
Mr A. T. Card, proprietor of the Marlborough Press published at Pie ton, has filed a petition in bankruptcy.
