LYTTELTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The fortnightly meeting of this Council was held last night. Present—His Worship the Mayor (Mr J. B. Milsom),Councillors Allwright, M'Lellan, Thompson, Brice, Laurenson and Cook. Leave of absence was granted to Conn* cillor Joyce, owing to his absence at Dunedin. FINANCE. The Finance Committee reported receipts since last meeting ,£192 Cs sd, and recommended payment of accounts amounting to JE4.17 14s 5d., REPORTS. The reports of the Works Committee and the foreman were read. The matter of arranging for a further supply of road metai was left in the hands of the Committee, as was also the purchase of another horse. It was stated that twenty-one men, outside the Council’s ordinary employees, were now engaged, and nineteen of these were on piece work. It was decided to renew the trees in the plantation close to the Dampier’s Bay and Sumner road, where they' had previously failed. The Water Supply Committee applied for an extension of time to report’upoa the proposed extension. The Bathing Committee suggested several minor improvements to the bathing place, which were adopted. The Colonists’. Hall Committee recommended certain reductions, which were to apply to local engagements only, and these were adopted. TENDER, For ploughing, fencing and planting the reserve in the Ashburton district the tender of Mr T. Sealy, at .£172 10s, was accepted. MISCELLANEOUS. Councillor M f Lellan' called’ attention to the bad state of the Eridlepath, and it was decided I»,effect repairs., Councillor Webb urged the necessity for a heavy and the matter was referred to the Works Committee. The Mayor spoke on the question of widening the footbath on the Dampier’a Bay road, and this was also referred to the Works Committee. The meeting then terminated.
