RAILWAY RATES.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —The Wellington papers deny the truth of my statement that the goods rates have been raised, and say that it is the assertion of a “-crank.” The following are the Commissioners’ own figures, and from that transit charges have been greatly increased. If this has not been dono by raising the rates, it is for the Commissioners to show to what it is duo. Whatever they may say, I am quite prepared to maintain my ground and prove the truth of my assertion. The following is a table showing goods traffic oil the New Zealand railways, with the average charge for carrying and delivering each ton during tho years ending March 31,1890, and 1891, quarterly statements :
