MIDLAND RAILWAY.

The following telegram was sent "from Christchurch yesterday :

Hon John Ballance, Premier of New Zealand, Wellington (or elsewhere). People ace most anxious to know whether the deviation will be sanctioned, so that the work may proceed immediately. There' is considerable feeling on the subject, and mass meetings are talked about. We sincerely trust that all such demonstration may be unnecessary. Will Government sanction the deviation and settle differences with the Company if Mr Perceval, after reading the correspondence between Mr Wilson and the Chairman of the London Directors, is able to report the approval by the London Board of the agreement made by Mr Wilson with the Grey County Council P For the Executive Committee of the Railway League. A. G. Howland, Vice-Chairman.
