OUR INDUSTRIES.

TO THE EDITOR.

Sir, —A letter which appeared in your issue of Wednesday last signed “Industrial,” was just the kind of letter I was wishing to see, as I thoroughly agree with every word contained therein. I must say it show's a great want of thought and good feeling on the part of the Railway Commissioners, for the promotion of the industries of the Colony, to send away orders for boilers, knowing, as they must do, that largo boiler plants in the several centres are standing idle, and that boilermakers and mechanics are leaving our shores daily for the want of such work to do.

It is really too bad to see that the Commissioners' are asking for £IO,OOO for the increase of the rolling stock, moat likely with the view of sending it away to purchase the work that should he done here, in the same way that they have sent £IBOO away to purchase boilers that they ought to have bad made In this Colony, and iu this way have assisted to retain our people instead of allowing them to drift away and enrich other colonies when wo are so much in need of a larger population.

I think the Industrial Association deserve the thanks of the people of New Zealand for taking this matter up and protesting against the Commissioners sending money away to purchase the work, which we are so much in want of.—l am, &c., INDUSTRIAL No. 2.
