GEBTMOUTH, April 26. The :-river*‘iß still flooded from Friday’s rain.
O, AMARU, April 26.
A-gentlerain baa fallen over tho district. The pastures were thoroughly burnt up witlrthe drought.
Rain set in from the South-west early on Saturday afternoon, continuing through the greater part of the night; Several showers also fell yesterday. Provided frost does not sot ia pastures will be materially benefited. A cold rain set in from the South-west in the northern district at middayg on Saturday, and continued throughout! the afternoon.
From Ashburton we learn that a nice, steady rain set in all over the district on Saturday. Nothing could have been more acceptable than this change, as the country was extremely dry, and the heat and dust on Friday were most unpleasant.
At Geraldine a steady downpour began about 9 a.ia, on Saturday, lasting till about noon. From that hour a drizzling rain fell, continuing up to the hour our correspondent’s despatch was forwarded.
