The Canadian Government are licensing American fishermen to ply their trade off the Coast of Nova Scotia. Seventy schooners with bait ran the blockade at Newfoundland and escaped to the island of St Pierre.

There was an unusually brilliant attendance at the House of Lords today, when the delegates from Newfoundland presented a petition protesting against Lord Knutaford’s Bill. The Prince of Wales was among those present. Sir William Whiteway, who acted as spokesman, insisted that the whole question should be referred to arbitration, and offered that if Newfoundland were represented the Colony would accept; the award.
