BOWLING.

OPENING OP THE TOURNAMENT. INTEE-CLUB MATCHES. First Day. The New Zealand Bowling Association’s annual tourney began yesterday,in weather which was absolutely perfect for bowling. The inter-Clnb matches were taken yesterday, beginning at 10 a.m., on the greens of the Christchurch and Canterbury Clubs and Captain Marshall’s private green at Pendalton. CHRISTCHURCH GREEN. On the Christchurch Green in the morning four rinks of the Dunedin Club and two rinks of the Green Island Club played against the representatives of the Christchurch Club, twenty-one heads being played at each rink. The green was in good order, and playing very “ keen.” The well-kept green, with its beautiful surroundings, and the animated groups of players, presented a spectacle strikingly effective and pleasing. The play resulted in a decided victory for the Dunedin Club, who beat the local men by 16 points, having a strong lead at three rinks, and being only one behind at the other, where Mr C. Cuff’s Christchurch team beat Mr Wright’s Dunedin team by 19 to 18. The Christchurch men, however, were victorious in the Green Island match by seven points. Mr Smith’s Green Island rink beat their opponents, Mr C. Jackson’s rink, by 10 points, bub the other rink, Mr Wood’s, made amends by defeating Mr Sansom’s by 17 points.
