KAIAPOI BOROUGH COUNCIL.
At the ordinary meeting on Tuesday there were present—the Mayor, Councillors Weston, Stanton, Doubleday, Bugg, Liasaman, Butt, Blakeley, Brighting, and M'Sweeney. . CORRESPONDENCE. The following was read From sundry burgesses, asking for alterations to burgess list. Agreed to. From the Colonial Secretary, asking for payment of £72 16s lOd. Forwarded, From Mr H. J. Wood, asking to have the bottom of the side channel in Ohoka road lowered. Referred to Works Committee. From the Clerk of the Licensing Committee, asking for five copies of the Licensing Act and Amendment. Granted. WORKS. Mr E. Chapman, Borough Surveyor, reported on the progress of certain works in the Borough, and recommended progress payments. He recommended the employment of a stedm roller in parts to. assist street formation. All shingle and formation contracts were progressing satisfactorily. He recommended a refund of £2 license fee twice paid by Mr Burnip. It was decided not to employ a steam roller, and to refund Mr Burnip's fees. The report was then adopted. FINANCE. Councillor Blakeley reported for-the past fourteen days ;—Beceipts, £sl 16s 3d; general account, debit, .£433 9s lid; loan account, credit, .£237 14s Id. Amounts to .£l4B Oa 5d (including interest on loan, j 872 16s lOd), were passed for payment, and the report was adopted. MISCELLANEOUS. • The Inspector of Nuisances reported serving sixteen notices on owners of overhanging fences. Twenty-five applications were received for the post of Foreman of Works, and Mr W. Turner was appointed. I DEPUTATION. Mr Pashby, on behalf of the Eyreton Road Boat'd, asked the Council to bear half the expense of widening Pamham’s drain. At a rough'estimate £llO would. 1 Jbe.
Councillors Butt, Lissaman, and otheil questioned Mr Pashby. - ■ : - 1 ' - ; ~ • His Worship asked if the Board would be prepared to stop the water attheOhoka • culvert, and prevent its coming into the Borough. y ’ Mr Pashby thought provision enffi- . cient for that purpose could he made. , The question was then fully dipetissed in detail, and, on the motion of Councillor Butt, a vote of thanks was passed to Mr Pashby for the information given, further consideration was deferred. The Council then adjourned.
