At the close of the first day’s play the Australians had lost four wickets for 85. [Received July 9, at 8,30 p.m.] The Australians have lost nine wickets for 271 runs j Barrett 45, Jones 28, Blackham 58, Charlton not out 70. The seventh wicket added 110 runs. The weather is fine and the wicket good. The attendance of the public is small. , I [Received July 10, at 1.20 a.m.l The first innings of the Australians closed for 276 runs. Charlton carried out hia bat for 75 runs.
