TAILORS’ UNION.
ANNUAL MEETING. Tho annual meeting of the Tailors, Tailorcsses and Prossers’ Union was held at the Druids’ Hall last evening. There was a good attendance, and Mr F. S. Parker, President, occupied the chair. In answer to a question, the Chairman said it was the intention of the Union to carry out the Dunedin system. The Secretary read a quantity of correspondence with the Kaiapoi Clothing Manufacturing Company, most of which has already been published. It appeared that there was still some little dispute as to trousers. The letters were received.
Correspondence was read from Miss Morrison, Acting Secretary of the Dunedin Tailoresses’ Union, suggesting that delegates should ho sent from Dunedin to explain the working of the Dunedin log. Another letter stated that in Dunedin one apprentice was allowed to every five workers fully employed, and gave a deal of information as to the working of the various Dunedin Factories. It was resolved—“ That the discussion of Mies Morrison’s letter should be postponed till next meeting.” The election of officers for the ensuing year then took place and resulted as follows;—President, Mr F. S. ; Parker (reelected unanimously); Secretary, Miss E. Rowe; Treasurer, Mr E, Swann (reelected) ; Trustees, Mrs Tattersall and Messrs J. Hudson and J. Tucker; Auditors, Messrs Kerr and Gibbons, with a Committee of thirteen members. As a member nominated for Vice-President had not consented to act, the election to this office was postponed till next meeting, several nominations being received. The President stated that be would endeavour to form a Union at Tlmaru when he visited it in connection with the bakers’ dispute. A motion to vote money to a tailor in distress was negatived, and the meeting adjourned.
