PARLIAMENT OUT OF SESSION

[Feb Pbkss Association.] WELLINGTON, June 3. Addressing his constituents at Ashurst, Mr Macarthur supported the Property tax and said the adoption of a single tax would injure settlement of the land. Referring to the surplus of ,£115,000, he argued that if the ordinary debts of the Colony were paid there would be no surplus; If Sir H. Atkinson retired, he would prefer Mr Bryce to Sir John Hall as Premier. He was opposed to the Government Hospital Bill. A vote of confidence was carried.

Mr Yerrall addressed his constituents in the Town Hall, Oxford, on Monday evening last. About sixty persona were present. The chair was occupied by Mr A. Wright, Chairman of the Oxford Road Board, who asked on behalf of the member a patient hearing. Mr Verrall referred to a few of the Bills before the House last session, and explained to the meeting his action in Ell’s case, and spoke at some length on the State Bank question. No questions being asked, Mr Parish proposed a vote of thanks to Mr Verrall for his address, which was carried unanimously. A vote of thanks to the Chairman terminated the proceedings. Mr W. C. Walker, M.H.E. for Ashburton, addressed a meeting of his constituents at Mount Somers on Monday evening. The address was similar to that which he delivered at Ashburton a few days ago, and at its conclusion he received a unanimouse vote of thanks and confidence. On Monday evening last Mr Buxton, M.H.R. for Eangitata, addressed hia constituents in the Oddfellows’ Hall, Geraldine. Mr W. S. Maslin, Chairman of the local Town Board, presided, and there was a good attendance. Several questions were asked and satisfactorily answered, and the meeting closed with the usual votes of thanks.
