Lylielion Times Office, Wednesday evening. LIVE STOCK MARKET. The weather changed to-day from an unseasonable Nor’-wester to a cold, chilly blast, which, as it augured rain, was very much appreciated. There was a good attendance, and the market generally wa brisk. Store Sheep. —There wore less of this class than usual, only about 2000 in all being yarded. Nearly all were sold at advanced rates. Sound-mouthed merino ewes realised 3s 6d; store lambs from 7s to 8s; merino wethers in good forward condition brought 7s, while a few lines of cross-bred ewes fetched from 6s to 9s; a nice line of two-tooth cross-bred wethers fetched lls Od and 11s lOd. Messrs H. Matson and Co. (associated with the M. & A. Company of New Zealand, Limited) sold for Mr F. Philpott, merino wethers at 5s 6d; fox a client, cross-bred owes at 7s 8d; for Mr J. Boag, cross-bred ewes at 5s 6d. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited), sold for Mr Joseph Taylor, 160 cross-bred wethers at lls 9d to lls lOd, also merino ewes at 3s. Mr P. C. Taeart sold for clients, 50 merino ewea at 2s Bd, 39icross-bred wethers at 5s lOd, 76 lambs at 7a 3d, 240 ewes at 2s 7d.

Fat Lames.—There was again a very fair entry, of which a good many were prime freezers, which cold at from 12s 6d to Ms 6d. Ordinary trade requirements were met with lambs which sold at from 7s to 10a 6d. Messrs H. Matson and Co. (associated with tho National M. and A. Company of N.Z., Limited) sold for Mr J. S. Fat Sheep.—About 5300 were yarded, of which there was a fair proportion of good quality mutton. There was not the eager demand by exporters that occurred last week, their demands having been, to an extent, satisfied, and in consequence there was a drop equal to about la per head on best sheep, and up to la Cd a head on inferior quality. The _ best price realised was 17a 9d, in lieu of 21s last week; but there were no sheep in to compare with these latter. Best wether mutton fetched fully 2.VJ per lb, and there were some pens which fetched a trifle above this. In consequence o! tho price being maintained the butchers have decided to meet to-night to discuss the of raising the price of meat in the district, as they say they cannot keep up the present price so long as sheep are so dear. Deans, 30 Southdown ewes at 15s, 30 do at 14s 7cl. Fat Cattle.—There was only a moderate entry of beef, inferior quality beef, principally cow beef, which dragged considerably. Of the 156 yarded there were only about 30 steers, and these suffered a drop on last quotations, though they were in tbo minority. Beef realised from 12s to 17s 6d, according to quality. Messrs H. Stoke Cattle. —There was a fair enury of odd lots, chiefly dry cows and young stock, but there was an absence of good quality steers or heifers in lines. There was a trifle more activity in the sale than was shown last week, and most lines sold at low rates. Dairy cows in profit were easily disposed of at fair rates, up to £7 10a being given for good sorts. Pigs.—About 400 good sorts of pigs were yarded, of which three-fourths were ready for bacon, the remainder being porkers. Stores—The demand for bacon pigs was not as keen as has been the case during the past two weeks, and the buyers of that class of pig appeared to hold aloof from the sale, with the result that nothing but the primest quality brought over 3]d per lb, while a large quantity realised only 2|d per lb. Porters also suffered a decline in proportion, and good ones did not realise more than 4id per lb. Messrs Frkehan R. Jackson and Co. report on the Wellington stock sale ot yesterdayßeef was in average supply, good quality predominating. Bidding was fairly brisk, with prices a little easier than at last market. Sheep were in short supply, and advanced in value. No pigs or lambs were yarded. Prices: —CattleBullocks, M IDs to £7, averaging £6 5s and £5 9s ; cows, <£3 to £4 2s 6d, averaging M 12s 2d.
