SUMNER TOWN BOARD.
The ordinary fortnightly meeting of the Sumner Town Board was held on Tuesday evening, when Commissioners Kitson, Hayward, Gilchrist, Hills and Tait were present. An apology was received from Commissioner Wheeler (Chairman), who was unable to attend owing to indisposition. Commissioner Hayward apologised for tbe absence of Commissioner Monck. Correspondence was read as follows: Prom the Lyttelton Harbour Board, stating it could not see its way to grant any tenure of the ground to be occupied by the proposed boat slipway. From the Property Tax tCommiesioner, advising payment of £l9 13s 4d, being balance of subsidy due to the Board. Prom the Sumner Lawn Tennis Club, conveying the thanks of the Club to the Board tor granting clay for the formation of footpath to their hall. The Works Committee was authorised to have prepared an estimate of cost of formation of streets likely to ha applied for in accordance with resolution passed at last meeting. Mr J. Bamford, the poundkeeper, waited upon the Board. He complained that some persons were in the habit of turning cattle on to the streets in charge of boys. He was unable to impound them, as the cattle were driven on as soon as he appeared. The Clerk was instructed to serve notices upon | the offenders, that unless such practice
was discontinued legal action would be taken against them. The Chairman of the Works Committee stated that tenders had not yet been called for breaking the metal at each end of the Tram bridge. The Treasurer’s statement showed :—Receipts since last meeting, £l9 13s 4d ; payments, .£l7 17s lOdj balance at bank and in baud, .£25 7a 3d. Accounts amounting to ,£3 13s were passed for payment, and the meeting adjourned.
