THE OYSTER SEASON.
[Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON. April 28. Tho Resident Magistrate gave judgment to-day in a case in which Peter Garbes, an oyster dealer, was charged with exposing for sale rock oysters during the closed season- It was urged by counsel for the defendant that there was nothing in the Act to prevent oysters taken from open waters being sold in other parts of New Zealand; but counsel on the other side sub,:t(;d that there was no distinction mother tho fish came from a close or an .pen district, as defendant was not charged with exposing them for sale in an open district, but in Wellington in a season proclaimed ?,:? Close. Hia Worship convicted the defendant, and fined him 20a and cost.:. Counsel for defendant gave notice oi hi ' intention to anneal.
