ROWING CLUB.

LYTTELTON. The annual general meeting of the above Club was held in the N Battery orderlyroom, on Wednesday evening, when there was a large attendance of members, and the chair was occupied by Mr J, Joyce, M 11. H., vice-commodore.

The folio wing is the Committee’s report ae read by the Secretary, Mr G. A. Lewin:— “In presenting their twelfth annual report and balance-sheet, the Committee are extremely pleased to be able to congratulate the Club on the result of last year’s operations, and at the same time feel justified in saying that there is every prospect of a good season in store for us. During the season 1883-89, the members who represented the Club at the various regattas had the satisfaction of knowing that by their exertions they placed the Lyttelton Bowing Club in the premier position among the Bowing Clubs of Canterbury, at least as far as prize money is concerned. This satisfactory state of affairs has been brought about by the extra amount of interest manifested in the welfare of the Club by the officers and members generally, and also by the extra amount of attention paid to training on the part of those members representing the Club at regattas. These two causes combined were the means of the Club being represented in every case by superior crews, and we have only to state that out of fifteen starts we were .first in eight, second in four, and third in three, to show you the position held by the Club’s crews. Besides being well represented at all tbe Canterbury regattas, a departure from the general rule wa's last season made by sending a crew to Wellington, where they competed in the Ladies’ Plate and Junior Fours; and it is almost unnecessary for us now to remind members of the very satisfactory result of the venture; but while on the subject it might be as well to state that the crew speak in the highest terms of the attention bestowed upon them by the members of the Star and Wellington Bowing Clubs during their stay in the northern city. There are now on the books of the Club nine honorary and thirty-seven active members, and we understand that a goodly number are to be proposed at this meeting. From the Hon Treasurer’s balance-sheet you will see that our receipts for the year amounted to .£94 10s 9cl, and the expenditure to £94 7s 2d. Included in the expenditure is an item, £37 10s, paid to the Union Bowing Club for two stump outriggers, which should prove a great acquisition to the Club’s fleet. In the course of a few weeks wo shall require £26 for a now stump we are getting from Mr Norton, of Wellington, and as there are several outstanding subscriptions, it is to be hoped that members will take the hint. The Club’s fleet now consists of one racing four, three practice fours, two racing stumps, two practice stumps, one practice pair, and a whaleboat, and, as stated previously, we shall shortly receive from Wellington a new racing stump, which the Committee ordered during the winter, as they felt compelled to keep abreast of other Clubs in the matter of boats, at least of this particular class. Oars and sculls have also been ordered for use during tbe coming season. As the Club are now in possession of boats in which races could be rowed, it is to be hoped that the incoming Committee will give the matter some consideration. The thanks of the Club as due to Masters C. Fleming and K. Tayler, who steered the crews while in training, and at the regattas, and to them no small share of the success attained is no doubt due. Since our last meeting, Mr N. Galbraith has been transferred to Wellington, and consequently had to resign the position of Secretary, and the Committee appointed Mr G. A. Lewin in his stead. The thanks of the Club are due to those officers who gave what assistI ance they could in tho matter of coaching ' crews, and it is to be hoped that some arrangements will be made for the coaching of crews in training for regattas during the coming season.” From the Treasurer's balance-sheet it appeared that after paying all outstanding accounts there was a small credit balance. The assets exceeded the liabilities by £l3O, The Chairman promised to assist the Club in paying off the overdraft, by a present of £lO, provided they could ; manage to get the remaining £SO during • the coming season, which promise was received by the meeting with hearty cheers, I Attached to the report was the following , list of events won during the season : I Akaroa Regatta—Senior Double Sculls : G.
