KAIAPOI HARBOUR BOARD.

• 1 The usual monthly meeting of the Kaiapoi Harbour Board was held on Tuesday night; present—Mr R. Moore (Chairman), and Messrs Hansen, Fraser, Evans, Mathews, Smethurst, and Horrell. CORRESPONDENCE. Letters were received : From Messrs Sims, Evans, and Johnson, calling attention to the state of the river at the end of Charles street. On the motion of Mr Smethurst, seconded by Mr Hansen, the matter was referred to the Works Committee to report on at next meeting. From Mr Wright, asking for the use of the pilot boat. It was resolved that his request be granted on his agreeing to pay 10a per week for the use of same. From Mr Parnham, declining to take a seven years’ lease of the mill site, and offering, on condition that the Board grant him a fourteen years’ lease, to pay £6 per year for the first seven, and £8 for the second term. Prom the pilot, asking for an increase of salary. The consideration of this request was deferred till next meeting. PILOT’S REPORT. The pilot’s report stated that there were ten feet of water on the bar. Owing to the low tides obtaining, recent arrivals had found some difficulty in getting up the river. The tonnage inward during the month had been 334 tons; outward, 185. On the motion of Mr Mathews, seconded by Mr Evans, the report was adopted. FINANCIAL. The Secretary reported the credit balance to be £67 8s Id, and accounts were ordered to be paid amounting to £l4 5s 4d. MISCELLANEOUS. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr Mathews, seconded by Mr Fraser, to call for tenders for the right to cut willows on the Board's reserves. In reply to Mr Smethurst, the Chairman said no reply had yet been received from the Government re title. The Chairman reported that Mr Sandford had been to him to ask if the Board would contribute towards the expense of a fence at the pilot station. The matter was referred to the Works Committee to report on. Mr Smethurst proposed the notices of motion standing in his name—(l)“That the resolution rc lease of mill site to Mr Parnham, be rescinded,” (which was carried); and (2) “ That Mr Parnham’s amended offer be accepted,” which was also carried. The Secretary stated that owing to an error, the frontage of the Milling and Produce Company had been incorrectly described. It was resolved—“ That the Surveyor be instructed to allot the proper measurement in making the surveys,” The meeting then terminated.
