The Prince of Wales presided at the annual meeting of the Imperial Institute. A satisfactory report was presented as to the progress of the builcUng and the success of Sir Somers Vine’s mission to Australia. Up to date ,£400,000 had been subscribed or promised. A DISASTROUS FIRE. By a fire at the City Soap Worts, London, damage to the extent of a quarter of a million has been done. The fire at the City Soap Works extended to twenty-four warehouses The total amount of damage is upwards of half a million. The premises of Stevenson and Sons (of Melbourne) were slightly damaged. CONGREGATIONAL UNION. Mat 7. The Congregational Union proposes that a National Conference shall be held in compliance with the request of the Victorian Jubilee Conference.
