ODDFELLOWSHIP.
The Loyal Perseverance Lodge, 1.0.0. F., M.U., Woolston, held its quarterly summoned meeting on Wednesday evening. There was a large attendance of members and of visitors from the city of Christchurch and Eangiora Lodges, also the District Officers. The Lodge was opened in due form by N.G. Bro T. G. Allen. Sick Visitors’ reports were then taken. P.P.G.M. Bro W. G. Woodford, on hebalf of P.G. Bro T. Hayward, sen., reported the death of Bro T. Hayward, junr., who died in Melbourne of fever; the sad news of which cast quite a gloom over tho members of tbe Lodge during tho evening, as the brother was respected by all. Ho had also taken active parts in connection with the Lodge at different times, and as a mark of respect to him and his bereaved parents, the Lodge adjourned for a short time; the Lodgeroom was also draped with mourning. On resuming, it was resolved that letters of condolence bo written to P.G.’s Bro T. Hayward, Bro A. Orr, and Bro C. A. Hewitt, in consequence of the death of members of their families. One member was reported to be in distress, and a Committee was appointed to enquire into the matter to consider what stops should be taken to render assistance, and report next Lodge night. A letter was read from the Friendly Societies’ Dispensary Committee,informiugthe Lodge of business transacted at last meeting. It was resolved—“ That tho matter stand over till next Lodge night, it being an adjourned summoned meeting, to consider what steps should be taken.” P.G. Bro M'Diarmid, as Treasurer, reported meeting of Committee re benefit concert held for Mrs Harper, informing tho Lodge of all moneys that had been paid; also credit balance in Post Office Savings Bank. The summoned business was then considered, it being the adoption of balance-sheet, also payment of contributions ; and after a deal of discussion on various items in the balance-sheet it was unanimously adopted. The business having concluded, the meeting adjourned till Auril 10. Receipts for the evening, £lO4 ißa 2d.
On Thursday, the members and friends of the Loyal xbddington Lodge, 1.0.0. F., M.U., No. 6544, held an entertainment. Tho concert programme was gone through iu a creditable manner, but by some misfortune, the pianist did not appear., The management had therefore to obtain the services of a lady from the audience.- The following are a few names of tho performers :—Mr Comerford (“ A Bird in Hand”), Miss Hopper (“ True till Death”), Mr Halley (“Bugler”), Misses Collier (piano duet), Master Collier (violin solo), Mr H. Ogier (“ Touch of a Vanished Hand ”), Miss Hopper (“ The Nightless Land ”), Mr Comerford (“ The Little Hero ”). The laughable farce of “ Box and Cox” was then well put on the boards. Mrs Clarke, as Mrs Bouncer, took her part remarkably well, it boing her first appearance in public. Tho entertainment concluded with a dance, for which Mr Brockett provided the music. Dancing was kept up till the small hours, every one being delighted with the happy hours they had spent.
