MELBOURNE EXHIBITION .
THE NEW ZEALAND COURT. [Pbb Press Association.] WELLINGTON, March 29. At a meeting of Oommissioners of the Melbourne Exhibition, Sir J. Hector presided. The total cost of the New Zealand Court has been about .£3OO in excess of the vote of .£3OOO, The estimates of expenditure approved by the Commission in March last have been closely adhered to, notwithstanding that a space of 23,000 ft was occupied instead of only 10,000 ft, aB was at one time contemplated. The chief items in which extra expense had been incurred were freight, cartage and insurance ; and this was due to the bulk of the exhibits sent from the Colony being very largely in excess of what the Commission had been led to expect; The schedule of awards showed that the New Zealand exhibitors gained 0 special, 127 firsts, 100 seconds, 54 third, II fourth and 80 honourable mentions, or a total of 331 prizes. The Executive Commissioner submitted a draft of the report of the Commission to His Excellency the Governor, which is in an advanced state of preparation. He also stated that by arrangement with the Government, 180 cases of exhibits had been despatched from Melbourne on Feb. 28 to _ the Paris Exhibition, 65 to the Dunedin Exhibition, and 200 to various exhibitors; _ and that the remainder will all be shipped by a steamer leaving Melbourne on April 2.
