THE BUCKEYE AT SEFTON.
ELEVATOR AND LOWDOWN.
At Sefton, yesterday, a trial o£ the Buckeye Elevator and Lowdown machines came off, in a paddock of oats owned by Mr Daniel Gorrie. Tho crop was rather a rough one, of average height and yield, and grew on a stiff sidling intersected by a deep gaily. The Elevator machine was owned and horsed by Mr John M’Kenzie; the Lowdown by Mr Harry Sutherland. There were about forty farmers and representatives present when the machines got under way, and from the start their performances were scrutinised with more than ordinary care. Round after round was cut without a loose sheaf or any sign of irregular or faulty work. The cutting and binding of both machines elicited highly favourable comments, whilst the closeness and cleanness of the stubble and the absence of any loose straws, considering the steepness of the ground, was greatly admired. This was the first appearance of these machines in the Sefton district, and, as they are left working, anyone wishing to inspect them can do'so. Mr James Barclay will be glad to give any further information. On Monday next there will be an exhibition trial of the Buckeye Elevator machine at Mr John Thorn’s paddocks at Hororata. On Tuesday both the Elevator and Lowdown machines will be engaged in a competitive trial at Ngapara, and on Wednesday the Lowdown will compete in a trial arranged to take place on Mr John Douglas’ Waihao Downs Estate. JOHN ANDERSON, Lichfield street, Christchurch.
