Last night Government announced their intention to abandon their taxation proposals, which were only carried on the casting vote of the Chairman, To this course, however, the Opposition object, oa the ground that it would be unconstitu-, tional. They will endeavour to prevent supplies being voted, beyond what is neosan sary to carry on till the general election takes place.
