Owing to changes in fashion extras r dinary fluctuations have taken place ia ostrich farming at the Cape. In 1875 the best white feathers were worth .£3O a pound. Three years later, though there were enormous quantities more in the market, they went up to £SO a pound, and some of unusual beauty even fetched £BO. At that time an ostrich chick just out of its shell was worth £2 10s, and the promts made were very .high.
