AUCKLAND, Sept. 3

The criminal sittings of the Supreme Court were opened to-day. The calendar was unusually light. Albert Johnson, a youth of sixteen, was sentenced to twelve months’ imprisonment for larceny. A similar sentence was imposed in the case of Henry Darby, who pleaded “ Guilty ” to breaking and entering the premises of N. Casey, and stealing a small sum of money. Emannel Oliver pleaded “ Guilty” to seven charges of illegally, pawning, and one of larceny as a bailee. Oliver traded as the American Watch Company, and a number of watches which Were given to him to repair were pawned. He was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment. James Bloomfield, an old offender, received seven years’ penal servitude for breaking and entering. EdWard Preniss, convicted of stealing from a dwelling at Rangiuri, was admitted to probation for twelve months.
