STOATS AND WEASELS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sib, —There seems to be a great difference of opinion as to the advisability or otherwise of turning loose large numbers of stoats and weasels for the purpose of coping with the rabbit pest. Some of your correspondents appear very confident that these little creatures will stick to tboir legitimate business, viz., rabbit-killing, while others fear that they will become a greater evil than the rabbits. I suggest that the matter could be set at rest by a very simple experiment. Let a few rabbits, poultry, and lambs be liberated in some eecurely-fenced enclosure, say Lancaster or Plumpton Park ; then turn out two or three stoats and weasels, and let your correspondent, “ One of Them” camp out in the Park for a week to watch the effect. He might have two or three of his children with him; or, if he has none of his own, he could, perhaps, persuade some of his friends to lend him theirs.—l am, . CURIOSITY.
