I.yttelton. Times Office, tl hmsday Evening. LOCAL MARKETS. Messrs Matsox axi, Co. report on tho iive stock markets, fee., tor the wool: ending Thursday, Not. 21. 18-7, as follows: i'or yesterday’a Addington Market wo have again to record a somewhat light entry of fat sheep, the supplv of mutton being about the sau.e na that of last week. Although shearing operations are of course very much, delayed by the unsettled state of tha weather, still there are very few sheep now coining forward iu the wooh.and any such are lor the most part of inoultercnt qimUry, f>» the nhorn sheep offering yesterday, Thera were some few choice lots, but these were exceptional, the bulk being of a medium class, with a certain number of inferior and aged ewes. .Despite the fact u[ two wuAi markets we have now had enough to sußica tor a three weeks’ demand. There was no fdga of auy licenncaa of competition ia yesterday’s sheep tale, though on the whole medium to good quality lots were a little iirmor in value. Light ami inferior descriptions, both in enta and wetheta, were neglected, by the trade, and sold at price;) slightly in. advance of those obtainable for fresh conditioned sheep in the store pens. The question may pm haps arise in tho minds of owners as to why tho demand for mutton and beof ia of so limited a character at present; for tho same remarks apply to fat cattle as those above to sheep. The fact is that v/e are just now in the midst of tho fat lamb season, and other classes of meat forUio time being are comparatively neglected. The weekly supply of lambs, however, is rather in excess of tho demand than otherwise, and the period of anything like fancy prices has passed. Tha best lots range from /s wl to Da; average quality about 7s; mfenor, 4s bd upwards. On account of Mr Charles HiW-st ws Fq.d, hi fat sheep, a email consignment of the Oakleigh half-bred wethers at 10s 9d ; cross-hreds at Js .cl. and merinos at 7s 3d. Account Mr V\, .Boajr. crossbred wethers at 9s 6d; account Nr Wilson, cross-bred wethers at 9s M; account Mr i. iraiikish. cross-bred ewes at 9s Id; account Mrb. Chamberlain, mixed croos-breda at S 3 Cd to9s, twopens of .iguter sheep at 7s !«•*!; account Mr 11. Jetts, Jight-wm<ht wuihers at Os td to 7s lid all the aboie pilots referring to sheep out of the wool, in unshorn sheen wo also placed account Messrs Seaward Bros, mixed 4-tooth cross-hreds at Ida and Ma; ■ account Mr Baglesome, cross-bred ewes at Us Cd ;

account Mr Anderson, mixed cross-brads at 12s and Da 3d, and tor Mr Dudley, cross-bred ewea at 8s 7d. VVe quota tho best wether mutton in tlia wool up to about 31 per lb; second quality to 2}d ; the best shorn to 2d; mixed sexes, &c,, to lid. During the last week or tea days the growth of teed has been very rapid, and from the rain which has just fallen this will no uoubt continue. With our pad ocks lull of grass, they will of course have to bo stocked, but up to the present time the demand for store sheep has beau devoid any briskness of character. It is, of course, a fact that the price of store stock must bo governed by the relative values of fat, but with an abundance of iced, a he ilih/ wool market, and the sheari g Be.smuotvm full swing, the store sheep market has not shown that vuaity which might have been expected under tho existing circumstances. At yesterday's sate a considerable prop< rtion of the entry was passed unsold, and the oxehinges made wei© generally on the basis of low values sor this season of the year. Our sales for Wednesday ’.veto a due of 6 tooih cross-bred owes in tho wool, with a full percei tuga of lambs at foot, for Mr <J. Jeffs, at lls; acc .uut Mr Baglciomu, cross-bred owes (in wool; at 7a 3d; account Mr H. Chamberlain, shorn half-bred* imixed ewee) at 4s Bcl and 4s 9d; for Mr G. G. Stead, aged cross-bred ewes (shorn) at 4s 3d ; and for MrSaudford, shorn 2-tco hs at4s6d. In fat cattle there was a fair entry of mixed classes, inferiorvto medium predominating. Trade was very dull, and the various hues difficult to move off, unless at a reduction of somewhere about 10s per head below recant quotations. On account of Mr Grantham we sold steers at ,£6; heifers, at £1 Is; account Mr P. J. Henley, heifers at .85 5s to £7; account Mr John Maddison, S steers at £5 to £3 2s 6d; account Mr J. Ilj’au, cows at £3 l r 's; account Mr John Wright, cores at £4 2s Cd; and for Messrs Tabor and Weston, cows at £f. Wo cannot quote the best beet at over 20s per lOOlbs; otlmr descriptions X7s up wards. In the store cattle market there is not much change to record, a fair entry coming to hand, of which 3-yeur-old steers wore about the ouly class that commanded any real competition. Various lots of cows, both barrenors and ©there, ns ulao a few lines of young stock, also changed owners, but prices for such were purely nominal, t m account of various owners wo p aced 20 head of ft rward-conditioned bullocks ‘at £5 7s fid per bead, another lino at £5 s s, two-jvar-olds at £3 7s 6d, and yearlings at 16s and upwards. Pigs made a small entry, and met with a very brisk sale, this remark app.yii g more particularly to good strong stores. The totila j arded for the day comprised 03.6 sheep, 301 Head of cattle, and 36 pigs, of which our entry included 2076 sheep, £O4 head of cattle, and 24pigs, for Messrs G. G. Stead, U. T. Dudley, T. Cakiekedht Horse MaaKST.—At Tattorsall’s on Saturday last we submitted au entry of about 100 horses, hocks, plough horses, and unbroken stock, together with a. large assortment of sundries. The sole commenced at ll a m. with a number of horces, traps, harness, Ac., in Sherloca’u estate, all of which sold at satisfactory prices; and of the balance of our entries we quitted a fair proportion at current rates. While recording a decided increase iu the number of horses coming to baud, wo ro<rot that wa cannot r.port any improvement in price-*; in fact there is le-s enquiry for draught stock than at any period for eomo months past, The result of tho recent shipments of light horses to India wid he awaited ith a certain degree of interest, as, if this market can once be permanently established upon a profitable basis, it certainly opens up a fresh era, iu the history of horse-breeding in Canterbury. Woon, SnsErsKiss, Hides, Hough Fat, and Taxlow,—At the Canterbury Wool Stores on Thursday wo bold our u-nal weekly sale of the above, fho attendance of buyers was not so largo bb u-ual, and a* further decline iu values took place. Our sales for the week comprise 29j7 sheepskins, 81 oxhides and calf-skins, 67 bags and packages rough fat and tallow. The following are the prices obtained by ue: -Beat butchers’ crosa-bred-*, from 3.6 d, 4s, 4s Od to 4s 8d each; merin)S, 'o 4s3d each; lambskins, 7d, Bd, 9d to lOd each; pelts, 2d, 3d, to 4d enen; wool in bnvs, 6Sd. Tabaet reports on the live stock market for the week ending Nov, 24 as follows : —The total numbers of stock yarded at tho Addington Yards comprised 6816 sheep and lambs, 391 head of cattle, ; and SO pigs. Fat Cattle.—There was a fair supply brought forward,but owing to the largo lotsold iho previous week, the demand was limited, and values tecedod fully 10s per head. Best bullocks made from £7 15s to £9 ios; medium and inferior, £5 £;s upwards; heifers and cows from £l lss to £7 7o 6d, according to weight and quality. Store Cattle —a moderate yarding, and, with the exception of throe or four pens of good thioo and lour-year-idd bullocks, tho cla-s of cattle was inferior. Boat pens made £5 7b 6d, but thr.se were superior cnttio in forward condition. Thoro was but little demxna for other classes, cud the business done was small. Fat Sheep. —There was again a small yarding, but more than sufficient for trade requirements, in the absence of any demand for freez -rs. Brice a ruled uneven. Boat cross breds, in the wool, made 12s, 12s fid, 13s, 143 to 15a for one small pen of superior long-wool sheep, bhorn wethers ruled from 9s Gd to 12s tor beat quality, and 8s for medium; fat ewes, 7s to Pte, according to weight and quality. Tho market was without animation throughout. Fat Lambs —From tho over-supply the previous week, tho demand was weak, and, notwithstanding there being only a moderate number yarded, a decline in vainee had to bo accepted to effect a clearonce. store Sheep.—Thoro was a gc od representative supply, and a fair amount of business was dene. Best pens of 3 and 4-tooth wethers made from Vs to 8s 3d. Ewes and lambs ranged from 6s 6cl to lls, according to condition aud percentage of lambs. Hie latter price being obtained for a nice lot of young owes, with ICO per cent increase. Figs,— lu consequence of the small lot on offer, every line was cleared at an increase on Fst week’s prices, fcheopskius, Hough Fa*, and Hides.—My catalogue comprised 23i4 sheepskins, 51 bags aud packages of rough fat, and about 65 hides and calfskins. There was only a moderate attendance of fellmongers, and prices, though fairly even, were noton a par with la-.t week’s. Butcher'sbestcros--breda made 4s, 4s 3d, 4s Gd, 4s 9J, to £s ; medium and inferior, 8a upwards. Merinos ranged from 3 1 to 4s 3d, and country skins, of which I had a small entry, made up to 4s Bd. Hough fat ranged from Id to Isd for best lines, and £4 upwards for interior. Hides ail cleared at usual rates, Messrs Besketts Biios. report on the live stock market for tho week ending Nov. 24 as lollows ; Tiia Addington Yards on Wednesday were fairly well supplied with stock, and tho lino wtatber brotght together rather more than an average attendance. B isiness commenced shortly before nine o’clock wi h tho tale of fat cattle to a very poor attendance of tho trade. Tho beef on offer, not a heavy supply, was principally of medium weights, hero and there an exception. The demand was anything but good, and lat e values were not maintained, a drop of ab ut 2s per 1001 b taking place. Our entries comprised a very nice lice of 14 medium-weight steers aud heifers from South Canterbury, on account of Mr J, M. Greenaway, tho heifers soiling up to £6 15s per head, and tho steers to £6 Ids. On account of other clients we sold various lines, principally heifers, at from £5 2s 6d to £6l2s Cd per head. The store cattle market was again well supplied, a few linos of particularly good three-year.old steers offering, 'i ho demand was fairly good for grown cattle, young stock being much neglooteo. A pen or two of nearly fat steers sold at £5 6s 6d to £5 7s Od per hea'i ; fairly fresh cattle of the tamo ago from £4 7s Gd to £4 12s 6d. Somogood two-year-old heiiers sold at 3-'a 6d per head, and younger cattle oven relatively lower than that. The dairy market was onJv poorly supplied, and not much business done. We sold some excellent cows near to calving nt from £t 16s to £6 X2a 6d per head. The number of fat sheep sent t.treat'd was again bat moderate, tho principal part being shorn or their wool, aud the quality on tho whole being good. The demand was again confined to local wants, freezing operations being for tho time suspended; but a little more life was noticeable among buyers, and the sola passed off fairly nttisfactorily, values showing a little improvement on tbo piooediug market. Cross-breds in tho wool sold at from lls to 15s por head; shorn ditto from 7s 8d to 12s for wethers, 6a to 9a 9d for owes ; being up to 3d per lb for mutton in the wool, and from lid to 2{d por lb for shorn.
