RANGIORA BOROUGH COUNCIL
The monthly meeting of the above Council was held on Friday evening; present—Councillors Blackett, Cone, Gulliver, Good, Manning, and Jennings. In the absence of the Mayor, Councillor Blackett took the chair. COEBE3PONDENCE. 1 The following was read : | From Mr W. H. Spackman, pointing I out that no notice had been taken of his request on behalf of Mr Norfolk to the Council to have the culvert leading from the natural water-coarse on his client’s property enlarged, and intimating that he had been instructed to enter an action should his client suffer damage from water. The Clerk had replied that the Council were carrying out a scheme of drainage which would relieve Mr Norfolk’s property of storm water. From Mr C. Anderson, asking permission to erect two posts and rail in front of his shop for horsetying purposes. Referred to the Works Committee to deal with. EEPORT. The Clerk’s report was read and approved. The Works Committee reported that the brick culvert in King street had been completed since the last meeting in a very substantial manner, and would greatly relieve the upper part of the creek of storm water. Tenders had been called for screening the shingle stacked at the pit, and the contract had been let to Mr James Watson at 9d per cubic foot They recommended that the railway ditch from the crossing in High street be cleaned out. This report was adopted. FINANCIAL. The receipts for the month were stated to have been .£lO7 2a 6d, and the Bank debit balance to be ,£llß 3s Id. Accounts amounting to £139 5s 9d were passed for payment. The estimate of receipts and expenditure for the year ending March 31, 1888 was read, and being approved, was ordered to be advertised. It showed receipts £1362 8a lid, expenditure £1728 4s Id, deficiency £365 15s 2d. On the motion of Councillor Gulliver, seconded by Councillor Good, it was resolved to strike a rate of 3d in the £ on the fall value of the property in the Borough for the year ending March 31, 1888,” The Mayor here entered the room, and, apologising for his lateness, took the chair. GENERAL BUSINESS. Mr C. King’s tender for the removal of nightsoil and rubbish was accepted, subject to the non-allowance of a subsidy of £4 asked for. The Clerk was instructed to take proceedings against the owners of unregistered dogs without delay. Councillor Jennings moved —“That a lamp be placed at the junction of King and Queen streets ; and also, another at the junction of Victoria street with the South belt, provided some one can be found in the vicinity to light it.” —This was seconded by Councillor Cone, and agreed to. Councillor Luxton drew attention to repairs being required to the footpaths and channels in High street west, and also that several hedges were growing over the footpaths. JUBILEE CELEBRATION. It was resolved to hold a public meeting on Friday evening next, to discuss the Jubilee celebration proposals, and also the Hospitals maintenance and Charitable Aid questions. The Council then adjourned.
