DRAINAGE BOARD.
The Christchurch District Drainage Board held a special meeting at 12.30 p.m. yesterday, at which there were present—the Chairman and Messrs Barns, Andrew, and Hosking. Mr Barns moved, Mr Hosking seconded, and it was agreed to —“ That tho resolution passed on March 15, fixing the general rate tor the ensuing year, be confirmed.” Mr Hosking, in seconding tho motion, explained that the increase in rates in jiual Sydenham was due to provision having been made on the estimates for certain works which should be done by the Board under their extra rating power and charged to the district. Works in rural Heathcote last year had caused a sum of £l7O to be spent over the amount of rates collected in that district, and a sum of £l5O had been placed on the estimates for Smith’s drain at Ashbourne. The increase in the rate in this district was to cover these amounts. What had been done was entirely at the request of the ratepayers of those districts. After some discussion upon the Waltham drain at Sydenham, tho motion was carried. On the motion of Mr Barns, seconded by Mr Hosking, it was decided to send copies of the resolution to the Mayors of Christchurch, Sydenham, and St Albans, the Chairmen of the Woolston and Linwodd Town Boards, and the Avon, Heathcote, Riccarton, and Spreydon Road Boards.
