THE WHITE TERRACES.
AUCKLAND, Maech 9. It is stated that Government have given instructions for steps to be taken to ascertain whether or not the terraces are still in existence. Mr Percy Smith will leave for Botorua before the end of the week, for the purpose of making the necessary survey. The action of the Government is consequent upon a representation made to them by Mr Alfred Warbricfc, who has indicated the spot where he believes the white terrace is buried. Should Mr Smith’s survey agree with Mr Warbrick’s calculating, work will be commenced with the object of digging the white terrace from underneath the deposit of mud. Mr Warbrick, who is at present in town, is quite satisfied in his own mind that the Pink Terrace has been wholly destroyed, but he is equally certain in his own belief that the White Terrace still exists. He has placed his own services at the disposal of the Government in the pro* jected work, and is satisfied the task will prove to be no easy one.
