I J Correspondence was read as follows • B f From Mr Charles Cook, asking for thtf 'use of Cranmer Square for his school Football Club. I Permission was given. . 1 From Mr J. H. Newlyn, suggesting thafl the deep artesian wells should be connected |with the tanks, so as to utilise the wateffl ifor fire extinction. | Councillor Halbert said the question 0$ expense had interfered with the carrying out of this idea, which had been under* consideration for years. The letter was received. FIBB BRIGADE COMMITTEE, The following was read;— “ Tour Committee has considered the question of obtaining a locally made hand fire-engine, but from expert opinion it has decided to recommend the Council to send to Messrs Shand, Mason and Co. (or one of theirs, with all the latest improvements. The Committee recommends the payment of the usual compensation to Messrs Congdon, Cow, and Watts, for accidents received in the execution of their duty as firemen." The report was received and adopted. Councillors- HosMng and Bowman dissenting. . • RESERVES COMMITTEE. ' . The following was read;— “ Tour Committee has considered Mr J. L. Wilson’s offer to rent the' Lichfield street station site, but cannot recommend the Council to accept it." The report was received and adopted. CONTRACTS. The Works Committee were authorised to accept several -contracts, and tdsell by .auction the old buildings in the rear of the Municipal Buildings. OABBTAEEB. The Council went into Committee to consider the applications for the position of caretaker to the Municipal Buildings. On resuming it was reported that Mr and Mrs Esselbom had been elected. After dealing with a number of applications for licenses the Council adjourned. t |[M
