The Canterbury Engineers intend firing a handicap match on Saturday, Feb. 12, at the following ranges2ooyda, 800yds, 400yds, 500yds, five shots at each range, for the following prizes First prize, solid silver cup ; second, cup, presented by Mr Sandstein; third, an alarm clock. A drag will leave the Post-office at 1.15 p.m. on Saturday for the range. An inspection parade of the Lyttelton Naval Artillery and N Battery of Artillery was held on Monday evening. The mustered 48, under Captain Pose, and the Battery 39, under Captain O’Brien. Major Newall was the inspecting; officer, and after the inspection put the men a number of battalion movements, which, were very satisfactorily done. I The following have been chosen to repre-{ sent the Lyttelton Naval Artillery in thel carbine match with the Christchurch Rifle! Club, on the range of the latter, at I Woolston, on Saturday next Commander I M'Lellan, P. O. M‘Williams, Gunners] Chapman, Field, Fisher, Jory, Sinclair, Semmens, Jones and Bamford; emergencies—Gunners Blacklor, Dimond, Dunn and J. Newton. A Government parade of the First Battalion Canterbury Rifles was held yesterday evening. The was the strength of the various companies A. City Guards, Captain Bishop ... 37 B. College Rifles, Captain Harper ... 42 C. Christchurch Eifles, Lieut. Bristow 41 D. Sydenham Eifles, Captain Coxon... 32* E. Scottish Rifles, Captain Campbell F Richmond Eifles, Captain Bowron 4| G. Irish Eifles, Captain Loughrey ... 4| Total 29(1 Garrison Band, Bandmaster Searell ... 251 Grand total ... ... ,• 321| Lieutenant-Colonel Tosswili was in com-| mand. Major Joyce and Captain and! Adjutant Francis were present. The men | fell in at the Drillshed at half-past 7 o’clock, and marched _ to Hagley _Patk, where they were practised in skirmishing drill, and a few battalion movements. The I work was well done, the skirmishing being; especially creditable. At a special meeting of the Ohristchurch Eifles, held after parade last night. Lieutenant Bristow presented Captain Richards with a requisition from; the members of the company, requesting him to reconsider his intention of resigning the, command. In presenting it, Mr Bristow! said that the resignation of so able an| officer as Captain Richards would be a| great loss, not only to the company, but tq|j the whole of the First Canterbury Battalion! Captain Eicharda, in replying, said that hP felt very proud of the position in which hg had been placed by the company, whic|| for the second time had shown their um| failing confidence and loyalty to hitjg He was at present, however, unable to givH a decided answer to the requisition. ® A church parade, of the Christchurc® Eifles will take place at Holy Trini« Church, Avonside, on Sunday, Feb. 20. § The City Guards' spoon match yesterda# morning was won by Private Sfceere. whci made 39 points with seven shots at 200yd* (standing) and 300yds (kneeling). Thai light was not favourable to the shooting! which was not so satisfactory as on former! occasions. Private Hall was second withs 88 points. •
